If the old substrates in the room, that is in need of renovation have only partial load-bearing capability (or none at all), wedi Tools metal or plastic dowels can be used. Blocking surfaces, or separating layers often fail to offer adequate adhesion for a new top covering; making these substrates load-bearing would usually be a very costly. The wedi building board and matching system components offer a simple solution.
Step 1Clean the surfaces underneath before starting processing and, if applicable, apply a primer and level any present cavities.
Step 2(Partial) levelling of the surface with a standard wall and floor repair filler.
Step 3aApply tile adhesive to the complete surface of the building boards and arrange them correctly. Hammer in the wedi Tools dowels to fix the boards. For a ceramic tile finish install 5 dowels per sqm. For natural stone install 8 dowels per sqm. Alternatively, self-adhesive wedi Tools reinforcement fabric can also be used.
Step 3bJoints and holes can alternatively be sealed with wedi Tools sealing tape and tile adhesive.
Step 4The minimum dowel penetration depth into the load-bearing surface is 35 mm.
